“We Will Cross That Bridge When We Come To It”
(Metaphorical Maxim)
ometimes we have situations in life that we can’t really do much about. At least — we can’t do anything in the particular moment because that thing may not have happened yet. Or — it may be happening, but for some reason you can not do anything about it in that moment. And that is what this phrase is about.
Because you can’t cross a bridge until you are actually AT the bridge. So there is no point in worrying about it until you get there. So that is the Metaphor which is being used in this expression. And the term “Maxim” is used to refer to some Truth or Principle which one uses to guide his or her actions.
And So…
Just Like You Can’t Cross A Bridge Until You Come To It… There Is No Point In Worrying About Something Until You Can Actually Do Something About It.
“Oh My Gosh!!! I just found out that a comet could hit the Earth and bring the destruction of civilization as we know it!!!”
“OH NO!!! What Are We Gonna DOOOOOOOOOOO!!!?!?!?!!???!?!??!?!?!!!”
“Well, there’s nothing that we CAN do about it now… We’ll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it.”
Hmmm… Better Get To Work
ow… Some people may argue that there IS something that we can do in the case of a comet hitting the earth. We can save food, build under-ground shelters, go jump off a bridge, or maybe just party our asses off because then we’ll finally have a chance to build a new world after the dust settles…
But That’s Not Really The Point Of This Phrase…
he point is — (using the example of the comet) — there is nothing that any one of us can do to stop a comet from hitting the Earth. We can not go up there and divert it’s path. And it’s highly un-likely that Ben Affleck and Bruce Willis will be able to either…
urther-more — no amount of worrying about it is going to improve the situation in any way. IF and when it DOES happens… THEN we can deal with (but not worry about) whatever situations this may present themselves. It could be that when the comet hits — only the idiots & assholes of the world will be destroyed — and all the good people will be left with a beautiful home and plenty of space for everyone to do whatever the heck they want without f^ckin’ bureaucrats messing up literally every good thing in Life.
And Even If We Did Die… That’s Okay Too… Because Then
We Wouldn’t Have ANYTHING To Worry About Ever Again 😉
Have An Excellent Day!
😉
